菲律賓衛生部長賈林（Janette Garin）今天上午召開記者會說，這名病患是於2日出現MERS症狀，4日下午就診並採樣檢驗，呈陽性反應。她並未透露其他細節，僅稱病患現年36歲。
1名與病患有接觸的人，現也因出現MERS症狀而隔離觀察。
賈林說，病患的病毒量低，意味著可能在復元中，現被隔離在MERS指定醫院「熱帶醫藥研究所」（RITM）接受診治。
菲律賓衛生部已成立特別小組，對同飛機約200名乘客展開追蹤調查。
官員指出，根據現有醫學資料，MERS病毒多數傳染發生在醫院內，尚無社區傳染紀錄，呼籲民眾無須恐慌。
菲律賓暫未對任何國家實施旅行管制。
